There are several good choices for above ground pumps, but the Hayward SP1593 Power-Flo should definitely be considered among the top of its class. This pump is designed for both above and in ground pools and includes a very large strainer basket, which can hold large amounts of debris – meaning you don’t have to clean it so often. The basket is attached with a proprietary C-clip, making it easy to remove for cleaning. The pump mechanism uses an impeller with larger openings than usual which minimises clogging from leaves or anything else that gets sucked up.
This pump has several features that lend themselves well to installation in smaller or awkward spaces. For example, the discharge outlet can be rotated from upright to a horizontal position, so you can install at different heights or angles to the pool.
